Okay, we finally have a moment and it comes with wrapping paper at my feet and kids running through piles of toys. Christmas is wonderful here at Pinantan Lake, BC, tucked into the white and charcoal mountains. This small community is covered in snow, kids tumbling down slopes, snowmobiles dusting across the lake, inside our kids in new cozy jamies fighting over new toys. Perfect, well, almost. We miss the rest of the family out in Alberta and thanks to Skype we were able to wish them all a Merry Christmas looking into their beaming faces.
Hopefully, we will have some time later to post about the holidays, for now, we are taking the moment to post about a very special wedding we did back in October.
We had the wonderful opportunity and privilege of flying out to Ottawa to photograph the wedding of Mat and Roz. Roz had seen our work on the internet about a year ago, probably on our blog at that time and emailed us to see if we were interested. At first, we couldn’t believe that someone was legitimately interested in flying us across two provinces to photograph their wedding. But soon we were emailing back and forth and the date was booked and before we knew it we were on the plane. As soon as we met them we felt welcome and all the more thrilled to be a part of their day.
The whole weekend with them and their family and friends was wonderful. We were with them through rehearsal, rehearsal dinner, golfing, getting ready, pizza and Friday Night Lights, ceremony, street car, Parliament Hill, reception till 1:30 am, and brunch Sunday morning in their suite. We were spoiled, giddy at every moment. Ottawa, for us, was such an adventure and we look back at it and these people with fondness. We felt a part of the family and, honestly, we were sad to say goodbye.
We miss you Mat and Roz, your family and wonderful friends. Thank you for spoiling and thrilling us. You are great people, an inspiring couple and fantastic hosts. I know Lethbridge isn’t as “urbanly vibrant” as Ottawa but, none the less, we would love to have you out, maybe for a horseback ride in the foothills of the Rockies, walk through the mountain village of Waterton and get lost in the towering hoodoos of Writing on Stone National Park. See, it’s worth it, sounds almost like a vacation. Anyhow, thank you, Mat and Roz, for giving us such a wonderful opportunity to not only explore Ottawa and Montreal, photograph your wedding in one of the most artistic cities in Canada, but to meet you and your generous family. Thank you for the memories and for the adventure.
Because we got to spend so much time with Mat and Roz, more than any other couple we’ve photographed, we were able to capture so much of their story, so much of their relationships it’s almost impossible for us to be so stingy with the amount of photos that we post. We have to do the story justice so we’ll post what we need to... we need to post a plethora... and that’s what we’ll do, in two posts if we have to.
This is the rehearsal and the rehearsal dinner. Christy and I were having a fit over this place, this church. And these beautifully aged stone cathedrals are all over the place. Anything this old in Alberta is leaning over in a farmers field. The rehearsal dinner was phenomenal, again we were totally spoiled. We were having such an awesome time and this was just the first day. There aren’t ever any photos of us but we were just grinning with a camera stuck to our face all day.
